Two Peas in a Paw-d

by Alison Friedman in Mommy's Musings, Pregnancy, Princeton

Princeton is going to be a big brother!! Our first-born furry son loves all children and we know he’ll have a special place in his heart for the new baby! They’re going to grow up the best of friends and I can’t wait to watch them play together.

Mommy’s First Blog Post

by Alison Friedman in Mommy's Musings, Pregnancy

So, it seems as though the babymaking gods decided to play a funny joke on the world and give Bryan and me a baby. Sure, this baby was completely planned and intended and more-than-wanted, but we can’t believe it worked! And we can’t believe that we are allowed to become parents (isn’t there a training seminar on the whole thing we should go to?). And, before we can even become parents, we, um, I, have to give birth. All my Google searches on the topic have led me to the belief that I will wish for the stork to deliver this bundle in its beak to my doorstep. But, something tells me that Mother Goose and her silly stork will be flying north for the summer. That’s right, on or around August 5th, Baby Friedman makes its way into the world and our lives are going to fah-lip out. But in the meantime, we plan on chronicling this pregnancy journey for our own memories, to keep friends and family in the loop, and to give Bryan a project that he can also give birth to. Hey, women make babies; men make web sites. Sure, it’s all fair.

Here are the details we know so far:

  • We found out we were pregnant on the morning of November 23, 2010. Did you not hear our screams and giggles coming from Simi Valley?
  • We spilled the bean beans to our families on Thanksgiving just two days later. Turkey, mashed potatoes, positive pregnancy test? What’s not to love about this holiday?
  • Bryan continued to spoil me for the following days as minor queasiness began and the giant tsi tsi fly of pregnancy bit me with its exhaustion venom. Allow me to brag for a moment: My husband rocks.
  • We had our first doctor’s appointment with Dr. Fiiiiine at 9 weeks to weigh in (joy!), hear the heartbeat (awesome!), get an exam (meh), and see the little nugget (mind-blowingly amazing). The baby was wiggling and waving for the camera: a true performer already!
  • And now today, at 12 weeks exactly, we come out of the pregnancy closet and tell the world!

I found out I was pregnant with Fiona on November 23, 2009. Crazy. I guess that is a good day to find out! So happy for you two!

A Blog Is Born

by Bryan Friedman in Daddy's Corner, Pregnancy

Well, this is it – my second contribution to our child. I won’t lie. After excitement and anxiety, the third thing that came to my mind after finding out we were going to have a baby was “Sweet! I get to make a web site!” Before I could start thinking of baby names, I knew I had to think to of domain names. So welcome to “Born Friedman.”

I know it seems like somewhat shameless self-promotion. We’ve already started down the path of the annoyingly proud parents before the kid is even brought into the world. (Let’s be honest though…we’ve been pretty obnoxious online with our dog as it is, so if you’re reading this, you’re probably already used to it.)

But seriously, I do think this is a great way for us to share the incredible experience of having a child, especially for the first time, with all of our family and friends. We’ll post pictures, videos, tell stories and share our thoughts. And maybe we’ll even end up being entertaining. It’s like a public baby book. I can’t wait to embarrass our child one day by showing it (gotta be careful with the gender references here) all this stuff. So, kid, here we go!
